This morning I was thinking about a movie that's stuck around for years as one of my favorites: How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.
I still laugh out loud at the trailer.
I not only love the movie, I love the soundtrack.
But this morning, when I was pumped to find it on Spotify, I also found one song I wasn't very familiar with: The Weight of the World.
But I'm familiar with its message.
And after a good couple repeats, I knew led to this song for a reason.
It might be another new theme song for my walk flight with Christ.
"I used to carry the weight of the world
And now all I wanna do is spread my wings and fly
I don't know why I was so afraid, all the time
Memories seemed to bother me, my whole life
I don't know why I was so ashamed-- such a waste of time
I don't know why I was so afraid, all the time
Memories seemed to bother me, my whole life
I don't know why I was so ashamed-- such a waste of time
And I don't know who I was trying to be
All those lies
Oh and there's always something
All those lies
Oh and there's always something
Or somebody right behind
Well we're not meant to be everything
Well we're not meant to be everything
We're just a pieceSo spread your wings"
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is seated at the right hand
of the throne of God.
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself,
so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted."
Hebrews 12:1-3
"Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:28-31
"Now the Lord is the Spirit,
and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
there is freedom."
2 Corinthians 3:17
"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear,
but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons,
by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Romans 8:14-1
"Jesus answered them,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
The slave does not remain in the house forever;
the son remains forever.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
John 8:34-36
"But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.
And as for all who walk by this rule,
peace and mercy be upon them,
and upon the Israel of God."
Galatians 6:14-16
"Come to me,
all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me.
Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.
I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches,
for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert,
to give drink to my chosen people,
the people whom I formed for myself
that they might declare my praise."
Isaiah 43:18-21
